Rahe Bulverde Elementary Receives $19,000 'YES Grant'

Nov. 2, 2021 - Rahe Bulverde Elementary received a $19,000 “YES Grant” from SA YES, a Texas-based educational nonprofit organization, on Wednesday, Oct. 28.

The Comal ISD campus is one of 12 local schools selected for a grant by the organization, which focused this year’s funds on benefitting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs and curriculum. In partnership with Thomas J. Henry, the “YES Grant” applications were open to area public, private or charter elementary, middle and high schools, as well as nonprofit organizations with a youth focus.

“We are excited to implement our Bronco Science Lab Project with this grant,” says RBES Principal Sunshine Barker, who serves on the grants committee of the campus’ Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

“We will update our science inventory and replenish outdated science resources so students may experience science through hands-on investigations and experiments that will establish a strong foundation for their future academic years. Ultimately, we hope students will be inspired to pursue higher education and careers focused on the sciences.”

The SA YES Board President Bob Wills made a point to speak with Barker, RBES PTA Grants Chair Kate Osborn and RBES PTA President Nichole Keith at the grant recipient announcement, telling them congratulations and thanking them for advocating for their students.

Great advocates, they are, but they are also resourceful. In fact, they have received a $2,000 grant for the RBES library from the GVTC Foundation and applied for a Comal Education Foundation Innovation Grant for the campus’ music program.

The next “YES Grant” cycle for SA YES opens Jan. 3, 2022. Learn more.

Congratulations!
