FES School Counseling Vision
The Vision of the Freiheit Elementary School Counseling Department is that all students will achieve academic success, social emotional growth, and will attain a fulfilling life & career in the future that is aligned with their interests and abilities. Students will be prepared to function as empowered members of our community where they show empathy, compassion, and respect for all.
FES School Counseling Mission
The Mission of the Freiheit Elementary School Counseling Department is to provide a data-driven comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the needs and interests of all students, as it relates to their academic, social-emotional, and college/career development. School Counselors facilitate actions to promote a positive school climate that fosters acceptance of diversity, empathy for all, and perseverance through all life's challenges. School Counselors advocate for equity and equal access to curriculum for all students so that they have the opportunity to acquire the skills needed in order to achieve life satisfaction and success in an ever-changing world.
FES School Counseling Belief Statement
All students should have access to a comprehensive school counseling program that is data-driven by professional school counselors to meet the needs of every student.
The School Counseling Program serves a central role in meeting students' developmental needs through interventions in academic, social/emotional, and career domains.
That all students regardless of their beliefs, ethnicity, race, gender identify, and special needs should have equitable access to a 21-century education.
That collaboration with the community, parents, school staff and other valuable stakeholders is pivotal in the success of all students.
That students will develop core values of compassion, respect and kindness.
We accomplish this with the implementation of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling which consists of four main service delivery components:
- guidance curriculum to help students develop their full educational potential, including the student’s interests and career objectives
- responsive services component to intervene on behalf of any student whose immediate personal concerns or problems put the student’s continued educational, career, personal, or social development at risk
- individual planning system to guide a student as the student plans, monitors, and manages the student’s own educational, career, personal, and social development; and
- system support to support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents, and other members of the community in promoting the educational, career, personal, and social development of students.
The primary responsibility of a CISD school counselor is to counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities. In addition, the school counselor shall:
- participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive developmental guidance program to serve all students and to address the special needs of students through classroom guidance lessons, individual counseling (reality therapy, CBT, solution-focused brief therapy, play therapy, art therapy), small group counseling, and consultation with teachers, staff, and families.
- consult with a student’s parent or guardian and make referrals as appropriate in consultation with the student’s parent or guardian;
- consult with a school staff, parents, and other community members to help them increase the effectiveness of student education and promote student success;
- coordinate people and resources in the school, home, and community;
- with the assistance of school staff, interpret standardized test results and other assessment data that help a student make educational and career plans;
- deliver classroom guidance activities or serve as a consultant to teachers conducting lessons based on the school’s guidance curriculum.
- Serve as an impartial, non-reporting resource for interpersonal conflicts and discord involving two or more students, including accusations of bullying, under Section 37.0832.
In Texas, four strategic curricular content areas have been identified for the guidance curriculum:
- Intrapersonal Effectiveness
- Interpersonal Effectiveness
- Post-Secondary Education and Career Readiness
-
Personal Health and Safety

I am so excited to be working as the Freiheit Elementary School Counselor again this school year. I look forward to working with your children as well as with their school and home families. Communication is very important to me, and I truly appreciate any input from families as you are the experts on your children! Please reach out if I can be of any help and/or support throughout the school year!
